Books and Linking
Descriptive Books
A Descriptive Book identifies a persistent Age. A Link-Panel-only book generates a seeded random Age; authored Symbol Pages override selected traits. Copies with the same Age identity lead to the same world. Click the book's preview to travel. Handheld travel drops the used book at the departure point.
Age arrivals use safe-footing checks and can create a non-dropping Crystal Platform when a safe landing point is unavailable. A Descriptive Book portal, however, searches for existing safe footing and does not create a platform.
Linking Books
A Linking Book binds a named position and facing direction. Carry one before visiting an Age if you intend to return. An ordinary Linking Book cannot link within its own dimension: its Link Panel needs Intra Linking for that. Linking Books do not generate an arrival platform by default.
Additives in the Ink Mixer can independently roll these modifiers when you take a Link Panel:
| Modifier | Effect |
|---|---|
| Disarm | Drops the traveler's carried inventory as items at the departure point. |
| Maintain Momentum | Carries velocity through the link, rotating it with the destination orientation. |
| Intra Linking | Allows a Linking Book to link within the same dimension. |
A Descriptive Book can use Disarm and Maintain Momentum. For a Descriptive Book, Intra Linking is treated as an ordinary Link Panel property and does not change Age travel. See the Ink Mixer notes for supported additives and probabilities.
Book Stands and portals
Use a Rivencraft book or Page on a vanilla Lectern to turn it into a Book Stand. The stand displays the contents and lets players retrieve them. Books used from a stand remain on it.
A connected Crystal Block frame with a Book Receptacle and a bound book forms a portal. A simple frame is a 3x3 ring, with the receptacle on an outward frame face. A portal can be vertical or horizontal. The book remains in the receptacle; removing it or breaking the frame deactivates the surface. Immersive Portals can show the destination live when installed, while a built-in animated surface is available without it.
Preview settings
The client config book_preview.mode accepts AUTO, IMMERSIVE_PORTALS, PONDER, and LEGACY. AUTO prefers Immersive Portals, then Create/Ponder, then the built-in Legacy-style animation. This affects display only; travel is checked by the server. If a live preview conflicts with another rendering mod, try PONDER or LEGACY. See the preview compatibility matrix.
