Milestones at a glance
This is the condensed milestone history. The current implementation is authoritative for what the latest development build does; older acceptance and audit files remain available as dated evidence, not competing current instructions. Gitea milestones hold the live issue status.
1 — Bootstrap (complete)
Established the NeoForge 1.21.1/Java 21 project, mod identity, registries, assets, build, and first automated checks. The port deliberately shares Mystcraft's concepts while maintaining its own modern package and data model. See porting principles and asset provenance.
2 — Books and linking (complete)
Introduced persistent Linking and Descriptive Books, conversion of vanilla Lecterns into Book Stands, named books and Ages, safe travel, destination previews, and a configurable Return Link policy. Later milestones refined renderer selection and portal travel. See preview compatibility.
3 — Ages (complete)
Added persistent runtime dimensions, deterministic random Age traits, name-derived unique dimension folders, terrain/biome choices, spawn recovery, and Age lifecycle commands. See Age administration, runtime profiles, and random weights.
4 — Writing system (complete)
Introduced Symbol Pages, Link Panels, Notebooks, the Writing Desk, Book Binder, and Ink Mixer. Writing order and unknown symbol references persist instead of being inferred from UI text. See writing data, descriptive-book presentation, and Ink Mixer audit.
5 — Age grammar (complete for the supported subset)
Compiled supported pages into frozen Age plans: terrain, biome distribution, environment, features, block/fluid materials, structures, crystals, and fissures. Added optional TerraBlender and Serene Seasons adapters. This was not a claim of complete Legacy grammar parity. See M5 acceptance, Legacy grammar audit, symbol schema, TerraBlender, and Serene Seasons.
6 — Instability (complete)
Added authored and live block-abundance scoring, frozen provider plans, operator diagnostics, bounded status effects, decay, lightning, explosions, meteors, burning, and erosion. Safety budgets are deliberate modern adaptations. See M6 acceptance, Legacy instability audit, and runtime policy.
7 — Structures and polish (in progress)
Added Legacy-layout Age libraries, page-bearing stands, crystal portals and receptacles, the handheld dropped-book entity, data-driven recipes, advancements, asset/audio polish, optional Ruins, compatibility updates, and expanded sky/glyph pages. Issue #83 covers regression, migration, and document consolidation; issue #84 is the final milestone acceptance gate. See the M7 Legacy audit, M7 regression matrix, and M7 compatibility review.
